Silver screen legend Elizabeth Taylor died years ago but her star power can still be felt today. Case in point is the clamor that her first post-mortem auction generated leading to the collection of about $116 million from the sales. The number is said to be the largest ever seen from an auction of private jewels.
Known for her luxurious lifestyle, it appears there’s plenty more that the actress left behind. Certainly enough for another auction which is pegged to happen later this year.
Exclusive Display & Auction
Together with House of Taylor, Julien’s Auction is busy planning a three-day, live auction this coming December where Taylor’s film costumes and red carpet evening gowns will be sold. While the official auction will happen in Beverly Hills, California, fans of the late actress will be given the exclusive chance to view the items for sale on display on the Cunard cruise line’s Queen Mary 2. The display will happen around mid-October when the cruise ship will make its transatlantic cross to New York City from Southampton, England.
According to a statement released by the luxury cruise line, they are honored to give their guests an early view of Taylor’s valuable personal effects onboard one of their ships. What more, Josh Leibowitz, senior vice president for Cunard North America, says that the famous actress was herself a fan of the cruise line and has even sailed on their ships frequently.
What to Expect
Some of the items to be auctioned off are clothing items Taylor has worn to public appearances from television show guestings to awards show red carpets and even foreign visits. One example is the beaded Versace leather jacket that the star wore during an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson‘.
Taylor’s movie costumes will also be on sale. Some of the costumes that will be up for grabs are the black and white pantsuit she sported in the film, ‘The Only Game in Town’ which is valued at around $3,000 to $5,000.
Aside from clothing items, fans can expect to see other valuable items owned by Taylor like a set of Cartier napkin rings valued for $500 to $700 and a 1901 gilt-bronze lamp estimated at $15,000 to $20,000. Decors and art pieces taken from her numerous homes will also be auctioned off.
Apart from the movie star’s possessions, Julien’s Auction will reportedly sell a $1,000 collector’s edition catalog. Proceeds from this product will then go to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation which Taylor herself founded in 1991.
Lasting Legacy
Appearing in around 27 films and winning two Academy Awards, Taylor is one of the most known and influential actresses of her time. While best remembered for her roles in films like ‘Cleopatra’ and ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’, the screen legend was also a humanitarian having raised $270 million for the HIV/AIDS cause.
