Pop superstar Katy Perry and ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ actor Orlando Bloom are currently one of Hollywood’s most talked-about celebrity couples. Sure, their relationship has had a lot of up and downs. However, they still managed to pull through and make everyone believe in love again.
So, it’s surprising to hear that the couple, who got engaged in February this year, doesn’t have plans about walking down the aisle anytime soon.
No Hurry in Tying the Knot
During a recent interview, the 34-year-old singer was asked whether she and Bloom have already started planning for their wedding. To this, Perry answered that they’re currently taking things one step at a time.
According to the star, she and the English actor are trying to lay a ‘good emotional foundation’ before embarking on the lifetime commitment that is marriage. Clearly, Perry sees the leap as a ‘big deal’ and seems to be in no rush to tie the knot just yet.
The couple’s relationship used to be an on and off one. They were first linked with each other in 2016 but only revealed their true status later on that year. Perry and Bloom notably broke up in February 2017, only a year after they started dating.
However, they were rumored to have gotten back together again after another year. During their break, Perry and Bloom reportedly remained good friends.
A Valentine’s Day Proposal
Come Valentine’s Day of 2019, three years after they were first linked with each other, the 42-year-old actor popped the question.
According to Perry, the night started with the two of them grabbing some dinner at an Italian restaurant. Observing how Bloom was particularly well-groomed and nervous that night, the singer immediately suspected that something was up. It was during the post-dinner helicopter trip, though that Bloom finally made the move and asked her to marry him.
Once the helicopter landed, the newly-engaged couple was greeted by family and friends. What more, Perry said that there was also copious amounts of flowers involved in the celebrations. Reminiscing the unforgettable night, the singer compared it to something Kanye West might have done for his wife Kim Kardashian.
Their Past Relationships
Looking back on the couple’s previous relationships, it’s probably for the best that they’re taking their time before getting married.
Perry was once married to the English comedian Russell Brand back in the early 2010s. Their marriage notoriously lasted for only 14 months with Brand ending their relationship via a text message.
Looking back on their marriage, the now 44-year-old Brand says that it ended because of their busy schedules at the time. He’s now married to Laura Gallacher with whom he has two children.
Meanwhile, Bloom was previously married to Australian model Miranda Kerr from 2010 to 2013. Their union resulted in one son, Flynn, who’s now eight years old. Kerr has since remarried and has given birth to another son, Hart, with current husband Evan Spiegel.
